Poly History Story

Lots of history around Kezar Stadium. (remember when the city threatened to close down all sports? Huge rally at Kezar! Not sure when, but it was during the time when folks smoked those smelly cigarettes). However, there was another memorable event that some may remember. The closing and demolishing of Polytechnic High School. I was living in Orange County, when I received an invite to a party planned to celebrate Poly's almost 60 year history. I flew up for this pary which was held at the Kezar Pavilion. The venue sections were set up for classes beginning in the 20's, then into the 30's, etc. with the greatest number of alumni from the 40s, 50s filling up those sections. It was a great party. I have in front of me, a piece of cement or granite with a plaque on it "Poly High Farewell Party" held on November 7, 1987. Because it included all the classes, it was great to seek out and find people from the many years of classes. A noble way to say "so long" to a great sports high school in a great City!
