Sitton, I'm so happy for you & your family that your uncle made it through the attack on Pearl Harbor. Did he ever tell you the name of his ship?
I could only find one ship that was listed as getting out that day, although I thought there were more. This was the destroyer USS Aylwin. Does anyone know of other ships that may have made it out to sea then? The USS Nevada got under way, but came under heavy enemy fire and was forced to beach in order to avoid blocking the harbor passage. Some of the other damaged ships were repaired and returned to sea after the attack.
