Thanksgiving was always very traditional at our house.
Only exception was that along with the can of Ocean Spray we would cook up a batch of fresh cranberries. In later years my mother even tried chopped raw cranberries with oranges.
Usually Thanksgiving was just the three of us. We used the fancy goblets for water, linen table cloth and linen napkins.
We got out the good silver and polished it and dug out the fine china.
As I got older I hoped that we would invite some lonely service guys over, but it never happened.
One year I remember our new French family friends joined us, and the dad, who worked in a fine dining restaurant carved up the bird before we could get the yearly picture.
Thanksgiving was a time when we would phone our distant family in New England, or they us, and we would all take turns saying hello around our distant tables.
My brother and I remember the year we were at the family gathering in New England and he ate so much he had to lay on the floor with a cousin to recover. My aunty was an excellent cook, but what a mess that everyone there was supposed to clean up afterwards.
