In the mid 1950s my mother took over having the family Thanksgiving Dinner. the turkey, potatoes, vegetables, and pumpkin pies, were always great. But the high point for me was always the first course- crab cockail made with fresh Dungeness crabs. My job on Thanksgiving morning was to crack the crabs. I thought that was the greatest thing in the world and living in San Francisco where we could get crabs like that was just like being in heaven.
