Having been born and raised in the Richmond district, drag racing at the Great Highway was definitely the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights during the 1970's. There were huge crowds lining both sides of the Great Highway to watch the festivities as muscle cars lined up and raced each other for fun and sometimes for "pink slips". I also remember some horrific accidents. Fortunately, the number of accidents were small considering all the cars that were out there racing. The Great Highway was more like a speedway, for I could get to the A&W's in Westlake from the Richmond in about 5 minutes.
