Re: Great Highway Drag racing

When I was 17 or 18 back in the late 1960's I was there and saw many a race. I hung out at Jumbo's on Sloat. One night during a race, a police car came from the lower Great up over the lawn, across the horse path (which was not paved at that time) and through the ice plant to chase a car that was racing north bound. Brotherhood Way was also used for street racing. It was called Stanley Drive at that time. One night two cars were racing west bound on Stanley Drive and one of the cars ended up in Lake Merced. Daly City racers hung out at Tic-Toks across from Joes of Westlake. Richmond District racers hung out at Mels on Geary Blvd.
