Join us for this free event of refreshments, music, history, and memories of the Anderson Sisters School of Dance. Irene Anderson founded the Inner Richmond District studio in 1935, and her daughters Jean and Lenore instructed thousands of children, adults, and seniors on 6th Avenue near Clement over the next 69 years. The Anderson Sisters and their students participated in innumerable May Day pageants, holiday shows, and performances on Treasure Island during the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939-1940. The studio was the first racially integrated dance school in the city.
With live performance, rare video, and archival images, we will celebrate the impact of one family on the culture and sociology of the Richmond.
History buffs, school alumni, dance and performing arts aficionados and fans, please join us for this special one time event with Richmond District notables.
